Mid-November 2023 AUN-QA Overview at Thailand, Viet Nam, and the Philippines: 362nd, 363rd, 364th Programme Assessments

In Mid-November 2023, the AUN-QA team has conducted three Programme Assessments in three ASEAN countries, namely: The 362nd PA at Srinakharinwirot University with three programmes assessed, Thailand; the 363rd PA at Foreign Trade University, Viet Nam with three programmes assessed; and the 364th PA at University of the Philippines with four programmes assessed, for a total of 10 programmes.

362nd AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Srinakharinwirot University (SWU)

  • The 362nd AUN-QA Programme Assessment was held onsite at SWU, Thailand, from 14 - 16 November, 2023. Three study programmes were assessed, namely:

  1. Bachelor of Engineering Program in Biomedical Engineering

  2. Bachelor of Arts Program in Sociology for Development

  3. Bachelor of Fine and Applied Arts Program in Performing Arts

  • SWU is under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) of Thailand.

  • Founded in 1949 by King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the Srinakharinwirot University is a public university in Bangkok, Thailand. It was named after the King's mother, Princess Srinagarindra. It was the first higher education institution in Thailand to focus solely on teacher training, as it began as the Higher Teacher Training School at Prasarnmit. In 1953, it became the College of Education, having the authority to grant a bachelor's degree in education. In 1964, the college was established in all regions, which eventually split into separate universities, although many still regard Srinakharinwirot as their mother university. The university has fifteen faculties, three colleges, one graduate school, two research institutes, seven centers, and four demonstration schools. There are two campuses located in Bangkok and Nakornnayok.

  • This was SWU’s 4th Programme Assessment and their 2nd onsite Programme Assessment with AUN-QA.

 

363rd AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Foreign Trade University (FTU)

  • The 363rd AUN-QA Programme Assessment was held onsite at FTU, Viet Nam, from 14  - 16 November, 2023. Three study programmes were assessed, namely:

  1. Master of International Economics (MIE)

  2. Master of Business Administration

  3. Executive Master of Business Administration

  • FTU is under the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) of Viet Nam.

  • Foreign Trade University (FTU) is a university established in 1960, located in Hanoi, Vietnam. The university also has campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Ninh. It is recognized as one of the most prestigious universities in Vietnam and has gained enormous achievements in providing talented graduates to the Vietnamese economy. FTU offers a wide range of majors and specializations in economics, business, business administration, finance and banking and foreign languages. It offers both undergraduate and graduate programs for both local and foreign students. These courses are taught in Vietnamese, English, Japanese and French. FTU also provides higher education in foreign trade economics aiming at supplying human resource for the economic sector generally and foreign trade economic activities particularly, providing knowledge to community members for their specific business purposes, and simultaneously fostering the team of lecturers, academic researchers in order to contribute to national education, academic research and economic development.

  • This was FTU’s 4th Programme Assessment and their 2nd onsite Programme Assessment with AUN-QA.

 

364th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at University of the Philippines (UP)

  • The 364th AUN-QA Programme Assessment was held onsite at UP, The Philippines, from 21 - 23 November, 2023. Four study programmes were assessed, namely:

  1. Bachelor of Science in Tourism

  2. Master of Science in Food Science

  3. Bachelor of Science in Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management (HRIM)

  4. Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) 

  • UP is under the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) of the Philippines. 

  • The University of the Philippines was founded on 18 June 1908 through Act No. 1870 of the Philippine Assembly “to provide advanced instruction in literature, philosophy, the sciences, and arts, and to give professional and technical training” to every qualified student regardless of “age, sex, nationality, religious belief, or political affiliation.” On 29 April 2008, Republic Act No. 9500 known as “The University of the Philippines Charter of 2008” was signed into law. UP was declared as the national university and mandated to “perform its unique and distinctive leadership in higher education and development”. UP is now a university system composed of eight constituent universities spread in 21 campuses across the archipelago. It stays committed to performing its multiple mandates as a lead university in setting academic standards and initiating innovations in teaching research and faculty development; graduate university; research university; public service university; and regional and global university.

  • This was UP’s 7th Programme Assessment and their 5th onsite Programme Assessment with AUN-QA.
