Introducing the AUN Thematic Network Series #15 – AUN-EEC

ASEAN University Network on Ecological Education and Culture (AUN-EEC) is an AUN Thematic Network established with the aim to cultivate the mindset and competencies in environmental conservation and preservation through ecological education among key groups of young generations, even at these times when economic growth and social change pose a number of challenges to environmental remuneration.

AUN-EEC is hosted by Ateneo de Manila University, the Philippine

As a network, AUN-EEC aims to:

  • Propose curricula/modules/materials that can be used in ecological education
  • Undertake initiatives that encourage students and faculty to support a sustainable lifestyle
  • Raise awareness on critical issues; its key objectives are:
    • To serve as a platform to help HEIs incorporate formal and informal ecological education in the ASEAN
    • To develop cooperation among HEIs toward actions that promote a culture of sustainability among ASEAN stakeholders
    • To contribute to the solution of ASEAN social and environmental problems

 

AUN-EEC organizes several activities and events each year. Its key activities include:

  • AUN-EEC Round Table Discussions
    • The roundtable discussion event is organised for AUN-EEC partnering universities and institutions to contribute ideas on promoting ecological education and culture with the main mission to develop ASEAN young generation who have views and competence to conserve nature.
  • General Assembly
    • The General Assembly serves as an avenue to for AUN-EEC to touch base with the members of the network and explore priority areas to focus on for AUN-EEC. It also features a keynote from a guest speaker.
  • Annual AUN-EEC Conference
    • The AUN-EEC holds an annual conference featuring a keynote lecture and panel discussion on topics such as enabling a culture of sustainability, the initiatives of higher education institutions on EEC, and enabling an ecological culture. It also features paper presentation sessions on EEC-related topics. The conference serves as a means for the network to promote the practice of sustainable and environmentally responsible behavior in the Southeast Asian region.

 

AUN-EEC continues to work tirelessly in developing platform for best practices in ecological conservation among the young generations amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic, society change, and economic growth.
