AUN Programme Officer;

2023 proved to be a dynamic year for the AUN Secretariat, with notable progress across an array of impactful endeavours including Qualification Transformation, University’s IT Capabilities, University’s English Language Capability Improvement, Internal Quality Assurance, Institutional-Level Quality Enhancement, Cross-border Academic Collaboration, and Student Mobility.

To commemorate the advancement of these critical areas, the AUN Secretariat would like to commend the individuals whose collaborative efforts and unwavering commitment contributed to the success of AUN high-impact initiatives in 2023 and shall lead the solidification and amplification of these initiatives’ outcomes in the year 2024.

This week,  we would like to introduce you to official AUN-QA Assessors, the backbone of AUN-QA Programme Assessment and AUN-QA Institutional Assessment, whose hardwork and dedication enables AUN-QA to advance on its mission to nurture the culture of quality assurance within ASEAN higher education and to assist ASEAN higher education institutions in maintaining and striving for academic standard recognised among the regional and global level.

The ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Network was conceived in 1998 by Professor Dr. Vanchai Sirichana, the first Chairman of the AUN Board of Trustees (AUN-BOT), in view that higher education institutions in ASEAN should strive to develop quality assurance networks as a mechanism for reaching and maintaining high standards of education. Since then, the AUN Secretariat, together with the AUN-QA Training Specialists, has organised multiple workshops and meetings to create the first AUN-QA Guideline, which was endorsed in 2004, followed by the endorsement of the AUN-QA manual in 2006. The first AUN-QA Programme Assessment was launched in 2007 at Universiti Malaya, Malaysia, followed by the launch of the AUN-QA Institutional Assessment in January 2017.

To dates, AUN-QA has conducted a total of 1207 AUN-QA Programme Assessment and 8 AUN-QA Institutional Assessment. The number includes 461 AUN-QA Online Programme Assessments, introduced in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the restriction of international travel. The AUN-QA Institutional Assessment is also poised to make its post-pandemic return in 2024 with the latest edition of the Guide to AUN-QA Assessment at Institutional Level, now in the version 3.0, endorsed by the AUN Board of Trustees in 2023.

Such a feast of achievements and progress would not be possible without the line-up of 164 official AUN-QA Assessors from 9 ASEAN countries.The AUN Secretariat would like to express its sincerest gratitude for being able to advance the culture of quality assurance in ASEAN higher education alongside these luminaries and pledge its utmost commitment to blazing ways forward for AUN-QA activities in 2024.
