  • Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, Executive Director of the ASEAN University Network (AUN), in his closing remarks congratulated the AUSN platform and its members for all the success leading up to the annual meeting. Lastly, Dr. Choltis endorsed the students to maximise the use of existing AUN platforms in innovating and becoming one of the leading youth associations in the Southeast Asian region.

On 30 April 2022, the ASEAN University Student Network (AUSN) convened in AUSN Annual Meeting 2/2021 at 8.00 – 10.00 AM (GMT+7) via Zoom with successful participation of 20 attendees comprising AUSN members, non AUSN members and ASEAN University Network (AUN) representatives. The objectives of the meeting were:

  • To introduce the network to non AUSN members as committee for Group Projects
  • To present the project report on Mental Health Webinar and Mental Health Social Media Campaign
  • To discuss any suggestions or feedbacks on improvement of AUSN

The annual meeting began with an opening remark by Ms. Aimuni Suffian, Chairperson of the AUSN from Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Ms. Aimuni welcomed all the participants to the meeting and introduced the AUSN Annual Meeting 2/2021 as a platform engineered for AUSN student members and non-members to convene and discuss key results and achievements from projects the network organised over the year. This platform also serves as an opportunity for the AUSN to introduce itself and its activities to non-member student leaders and to discuss ideas for new AUSN projects from international perspectives.

Her opening remark was followed shortly by an ice-breaking session in which the participants were divided into two groups and participated in convivial mini-games and activities together as part of the effort to get to know each other and familiarise the participants to AUSN activities and members. Throughout the session, the students were able to interact well with one another in sharing their culture and collaborating in group activities.

After the ice-breaking session, Ms. Aimuni Suffian congratulated all the AUSN members and non-members for their contribution to the successful project on mental health campaigns. Earlier this year, AUSN conducted a project on mental health comprising a virtual Mental Health Webinar held on 19 March 2022 and Mental Health Campaigns on the network’s social media from 26 February to 18 April 2022. To encapsulate the achievement of the project, the meeting proceeded to a presentation of key results from the AUSN project on Mental Health Webinar and Mental Health Campaigns.

The session was first helmed by Ms. Nabilah Assyahirah binti Norman from Universiti Brunei Darussalam, AUSN Member and the project’s Floor Manager of Social Media Campaign. She summarised the structure and management of the team for the project, their roles and responsibilities, as well as the process of organising the project. Her presentation demonstrated the AUSN student leaders' excellent organisational and human resource management skills as seen in the departmentalization of team members into different teams, including floor management of the social media campaign, media, marketing and research. Each department collaborated well with one another in generating and delivering content and communication campaigns in a high quality and timely manner that was able to reach the target audience which comprised mostly university students in the ASEAN region.

The second half of the presentation was presented by Mr. Jerick Yap Raymundo from Universiti Brunei Darussalam as AUSN Member and the project’s Floor Manager of the Mental Health Webinar. According to Mr. Jerick, with great preparation by the AUSN team, the Mental Health Webinar was a huge success and garnered positive feedback from most participants. The input by invited speakers, Dr. Laurene Chua-Garcia, President of the UMAP Philippine Council & Secretary General of the Erasmus+ funded ANTENA InNet, and Mr. Rusli Bujang, Professional Counsellor, Behavioural Consultant & Life/Success Coach, who were experts in mental health issues and therapy, was clearly the highlight of their experience. In terms of feedback and improvement, the audience suggested more one-on-one conversations and dialogues on specific topics related to mental health e.g., stress coping as well as family conflicts and legal issues.

Another major output from the student network this year was the first logo of AUSN created by Ms. Nabilah. According to Ms. Nabilah, the logo was designed with the aim to establish the network’s identity and include the representation of its student members and non-members from AUN 30 Member Universities. As the logo is still in a developmental stage, the AUSN team will further consult with the AUN Secretariat for improvement to the current version before authorising it for official use.

The meeting concluded with a closing remark by Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti., AUN Executive Director. Dr. Choltis first congratulated the AUSN platform and all its members for their success over the past two years. In particular, he commended the accomplishment of the network’s mental health campaigns which are relevant to prevalent mental health struggles experienced by students across the ASEAN region. As AUSN is a part of the university network, the AUN Executive Director encouraged the student leaders to be innovative and maximise their use of existing AUN platforms to aid their activities and become one of the highly prestigious student associations in the Southeast Asian region.
