Five More for October, AUN-QA Overview: 347th, 354th, 355th, 356th, and 357th Programme Assessments

AUN-QA is back for the latter half of October with five more Programme Assessments (PA) to cover with a grand total of 18 programmes assessed! This week, the overview will cover a previously rescheduled 347th PA with University of Santo Tomas (UST), following four more with 1.) 354th PA at Technological Institute of Philippines (T.I.P.), 2.) 355th PA at Mahidol University (MU), 3.) 356th PA at Ho Chi Minh University of Transport (UTH), and 4.)  357th PA at Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM). 347th AUN-QA Programme Re-assessment at University of Santo Tomas (UST

  • The 347th AUN-QA Programme Re-assessment was held onsite at UST, The Philippines, from 3 - 5 October, 2023. The four study programmes re-assessed were previously assessed in 2017, which are the following:
  1. Bachelor of Special Needs Education
  2. Bachelor of Secondary Education
  3. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology
  4. Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
  • UST is under the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) of the Philippines
  • The University of Santo Tomas, a private Catholic higher education institution run by the Order of Preachers in the Philippines, provides quality education by combining excellence in instruction, research, and community service with the wisdom gained from its more than four centuries of Catholic education. A comprehensive university, it offers programmes in accountancy, business, and management; health; humanities and social sciences; music, arts, and design; physical education and sports; the sacred sciences; and science, technology, engineering and mathematics in its twenty-two degree-granting academic units. The university likewise houses six research centers specializing in the various fields to address the knowledge-generation thrust of the University. In the last decade, the University made the shift to outcomes-based education and intensified its commitment to quality assurance initiatives, acquiring certifications from local and international agencies. To date, the University enjoys Institutional Certification from the AUN-QA, which has also certified fourteen of its bachelor’s programmes.
  • This was UST’s 7th Programme Assessment with AUN-QA and their 5th onsite Programme Assessment with AUN-QA.

354th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Technological Institute of the Philippines (T.I.P.)

  • The 354th AUN-QA Programme Assessment was held onsite at T.I.P., The Philippines, from 17 - 19 October, 2023. Four study programmes were assessed, namely:
  1. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (Quezon City campus)
  2. Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (Quezon City campus)
  3. Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering (Manila campus)
  4. Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (Manila campus)
  • T.I.P. is under the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) of the Philippines
  • The Technological Institute of the Philippines (T.I.P.) is one of the country’s premier technological, engineering, and computing higher educational institutions. Established in 1962 by Engr. 355th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Mahidol University (MU)

  • The 355th AUN-QA Programme Assessment was held onsite at MU, Thailand, from 17 - 19 October, 2023. Four study programmes were assessed, namely:
  1. Bachelor of Applied Thai Traditional Medicine Programme (Bangkoknoi Campus)
  2. Master of Nursing Science Programme in Adult and Gerontological Nursing (Salaya Campus)
  3. Master of Science Programme in Physical Therapy (International Programme) (Salaya Campus)
  4. Doctor of Philosophy Programme in Science and Technology Education (International Programme) (Salaya Campus)
  • MU is under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand
  • Mahidol University has been living a long history for over 129 years since the establishment of “Siriraj Hospital” in 1888, then developed to a medical school in the next year. The name was bestowed upon by His Late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej after His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkla. Mahidol University had continued to progress in all aspects to stay relevant and conform to the rapidly changing world and society. The significant role of the university is to produce quality graduates, who are knowledgeable in their chosen fields and mindful of morality, to serve as human capital for the country’s current development. All strategies are aligned with Mahidol University’s aspiration towards a world class university. The university’s current milestone is being ranked as the top university in the region and No.1 in Thailand.
  • This was MU’s 10th Programme Assessment and their 8th onsite Programme Assessment with AUN-QA.

356th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport (UTH)

  • The 356th AUN-QA Programme Assessment was held onsite at UTH, Viet Nam, from 24 - 26 October, 2023. Two study programmes were assessed, namely:
  1. Bachelor of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
  2. Bachelor of Maritime Science
  • UTH is under the Ministry of Transport of Viet Nam
  • Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport (UTH) was established on 18 May 1988 under the Decision No. 1252/TCCB-LD of the Ministry of Transport and Communications with the first name “Ho Chi Minh City In-service Training Center of Transport” and then changed to “Southern Center of Maritime Education” (according to the Decision No. 968/TCCB-LD on January 14th, 1989 of the Ministry of Transport and Communications). On August 20, 1991, the Ministry of Transport issued Decision No. 1665 QD/TCCB-LD on transforming the Southern Center of Maritime Education into the Maritime University branch under the Vietnam Maritime University. On April 26, 2001 the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 66/2001/QD-TTg establishing the Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport. By 2023, UTH has had 35 years of establishment and development, training more than 18,000 students and trainees, including full-time, in-service, transition, second degree training/programme at bachelor, master and doctoral levels.
  • This was UTH’s 2nd Programme Assessment and their 1st onsite Programme Assessment with AUN-QA.

357th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM)

  • The 357th AUN-QA Programme Assessment was held onsite at VNUHCM, Viet Nam, from 24 - 26 October, 2023. Four study programmes were assessed, namely:
  1. Doctor of Medicine (School of Medicine)
  2. Bachelor of Arts in Geography (University of Social Sciences and Humanity)
  3. Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology (University of Social Sciences and Humanity)
  4. Bachelor of Economics (University of Economics and Law)
  • VNUHCM is an autonomous university reporting directly to the Prime Minister of Viet Nam.
  • VNUHCM, one of the largest educational institutions of Vietnam, was established in 1995 by the government to create a training center for undergraduate, postgraduate and science research, following high-quality and innovative multidisciplinary technology. VNUHCM serves as the core of the higher education system and is dedicated to the needs of socio-economic developments.
  • The university has 27 units of training, scientific research and technology transfer, as well as 8 member units: University of Technology, University of Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, International University, University of Information Technology, University of Economics and Law, An Giang University and Institute for Environment and Resources. The training program of VNUHCM includes 138 disciplines/groups of disciplines, ranging from technology, natural science, social sciences and humanities to economics, healthcare and agriculture. The university also has 125 master's degree training majors and 89 doctoral ones. Connecting and serving the community is one of VNUHCM’s core values. Each year, the revenue from technology transfer and serving the community of VNUHCM reaches over VND 150 billion. "Promoting social progress" is the idea that the world's top universities pursue. This is also the mission committed by VNUHCM.
