AUN-QA has conducted a re-assessment aimed at fostering continuous improvement and demonstrating a commitment to ongoing quality enhancement at Ho Chi Minh City University of Banking. The TransBio consortium (under AUN/SEED-Net Research and Education Grant for University Consortium Program) recently held its latest periodic meeting, which served as an important opportunity to reflect on progress made in 2023 and set goals for the coming year. The consortium committed to advancing sustainable transportation solutions, focused its discussions on moving the carbon-neutral agenda forward in both the land transportation and aviation sectors.

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City (UMP) in Viet Nam and the De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI) conducted their programme assessments (PAs) with AUN-QA in the last two weeks of April 2024. Two PAs for a total of 7 study programmes were assessed with the majority being related to the Science and Medical fields. The full details of both assessments can be found in the full article here.

With 40 universities and over 70 participants, the 11th ASEAN+3 Heads of International Relations (IRO+3) Meeting highlighted the spirit of openness and inclusivity of the ASEAN+3 University Network (ASEAN+3 UNet) community in connecting the region’s top universities for fruitful collaboration and initiatives. This year, under the theme of “Accelerating Sustainable and Inclusive Growth through Strengthened Collaboration and Solidarity between Universities in ASEAN and Beyond,” the meeting set its eyes on building a shared future of inclusive and sustainable growth through the leveraging of technology, innovation, institutional partnerships as well as cross-sectoral partnerships with external stakeholders. The fruitful discussions, knowledge exchange and networking throughout the meeting provided the impetus for ASEAN+3 UNet to further explore new regional initiatives that promote sustainable development, harmony and solidarity through higher education exchange and cooperation.

The AUN Secretariat delegates, facilitated by the ASEAN Focus Group (AFG,) paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Sinchai Manivanh, Ambassador of the Lao PDR to Australia and New Zealand at the Embassy of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Canberra, who is also the Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Canberra (ACC). The conversation between all the parties involved emphasised on knowledge exchange and exploration of new initiatives to promote Australian-ASEAN cooperation in the front of higher education.

As ASEAN and Australia commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relationships; the AUN Secretariat, with facilitation by ASEAN Focus Group (AFG) and Study Melbourne, had the opportunity to deepen the ties between AUN and different key stakeholders of Australian higher education sector including seven Victorian universities, THE, NEAS Australia, and more in the Victorian Universities Roundtable under the ASEAN-Australia Education Dialogue. With academic exchange being one of the bedrocks for people-to-people relationships, the Victorian higher education sector has been enthusiastic in exploring and fostering new ties with the ASEAN region.

English as the Medium of Instruction (EMI) holds the great potential to bolster higher education institutions’ efforts in internationalisation and standardisation. In the landscape of ASEAN where one or several native languages serve interchangeably as the mediums of instruction, Western Sydney University (WSU) is among such organisations that have been driving EMI implementation in collaboration with various ASEAN universities and governmental sectors. This article highlights the profile of WSU as one of the leading universities from Australia, its key cross-regional university collaborations as well as upcoming opportunities between WSU and AUN in elevating institutional English language capability of ASEAN higher education.
