Continuing Strong in the Tide of Change: AUN’s Success Recapped in the 38th AUN-BOT Meeting

The 38th ASEAN University Network Board of Trustees (AUB-BOT) Meeting concluded with an astounding success on 6 July 2023, with gracious hosting from Universiti Malaya. This annual meeting serves as an opportunity for the members of AUN’s Board of Trustees to be updated on the latest activities of AUN, discuss its direction, and set a vision for its future. This year, the members of our Board of Trustees were up for a long list!

In the 14th AUN Rectors’ Meeting held on 5 July 2023, with the gracious hosting of Universiti Malaya, leaders from AUN Universities demonstrated how ASEAN higher education can navigate the changing tide of global higher education. The ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum Made a Grand Return From the Pandemic Hiatus

The wait is finally over! After the COVID Pandemic shook the world, the ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum has been on hiatus for 3 years. But no more, the 18th ASEAN and 8th ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum just recently made a grand return on 14 - 19 May, 2023 in Jakarta, Universitas Indonesia where 132 delegates from 9 ASEAN+3 countries were able to partake in this spectacular cultural event!

The Astounding Success of The First CALOHEA National Meeting at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember

The CALOHEA Project has taken a major leap towards its goal of enhancing mobility and internationalization in Universities in Asia with the first National Meeting on 2 -3 March, 2023, at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Indonesia. This two-day event of knowledge sharing, open discussion, and a workshop is another step towards bringing Higher Education in SEA into a common space and enhancing mobility between SEA countries and even to other regions by implementing the 3 Core Recognition Mechanisms (RM3) into SEA Universities.

13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting and 37th AUN-BOT Meeting successfully held in Vientiane, Lao PDR

The 37th ASEAN University Network Board of Trustees Meeting and the 13th ASEAN University Network Rectors’ Meeting, hosted by the National University of Laos and co-hosted by AUN Secretariat, were held on 27 - 28 September 2022 in Vientiane, Laos PDR. During the 13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting, 11 Presidents, Rectors, Vice Chancellors, and more than 50 representatives from 28 AUN Member Universities across 10 ASEAN Countries participated in the Meeting to discuss and share their good practices, analyses, initiatives, and recommendations on AUN-related projects, programs, and activities.

AUN-QA’s Official Meetings in Viet Nam Series #1: Ministry of Education and Training

On the morning of 20 July 2022, the official meeting was held between the AUN-QA team led by Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, the Executive Director of the AUN, and the guest of honour – Assoc. Prof. Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Training, alongside the representatives from Higher Education Department and Viet Nam Education Management Agency (VQA) under the Ministry.

AUN-QA’s meetings with stakeholders: Exploring current QA prospects in Viet Nam

As the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued the Decision on recognising quality assurance activities of the AUN-QA in Vietnam, the AUN-QA has taken the opportunity to organise official on-site meetings with stakeholder organisations and partnered universities in Vietnam during 17 - 22 July 2022. The objective of this visit was to discuss the prospects of QA direction, share recent updates on QA development in the ASEAN region, and discuss further on possible collaboration in Viet Nam.

These fresh perspectives will provide an insight as to what the experience working with the AUN-QA is like and why quality assurance is essential to the development of higher education for the future.

The AUN Executive Director's Keynote Speech at USTMAM Encourages the Importance of Regional Cooperation for the Development of ASEAN Region

Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, AUN Executive Director, delivered his keynote speech at the University of Santo Tomas Model ASEAN Meeting (UST Model ASEAN Meeting) under the theme of “ONE ASEAN, ONE HEALTH: Overcoming COVID-19 Adversities through Regional Cooperation and Development”. The UST Model ASEAN Meeting was conducted by the UST Asian Studies Major on February 3rd-5th 2022 via Zoom Meeting Conference with the aim to improve the public awareness of ASEAN and its relevance to the community. Dr. Choltis put emphasis on the challenges faced by the education sector during the COVID-19 pandemic and the importance of regional cooperation to push forward the development in the ASEAN region. He also laid the AUN’s concern for students to have the capacity to learn and be proactive with a strong sense of global citizenship.

AUN-QA Overview: 246th & 258th AUN-QA Programme Assessments

As the first half of February 2022 flew by, the AUN-QA is leaving behind a trail of sparkling success in its mission to provide quality assurance services to universities in the ASEAN region. Over the past couple of weeks, two AUN-QA Programme Assessments (Online/Remote Site Visit) have been accomplished, namely the 258th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) and the 246th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at National University of Laos (NUOL).

Participants share their experiences in AUN-QA Tier 1 Training (Online)

The AUN-QA held the 1st AUN-QA Training Workshop for Accomplishing Programme Assessment Version 4.0 (AUN-QA Tier 1 Training) virtually on 13 December 2021 – 24 January 2022. Following the success of the training course in quality assurance, the AUN-QA is delighted to share a few perspectives emerging from the training course based on the participants’ feedback and experiences.

Emergence of the Hybrid World: Its Imperatives and Challenges

The constraints of the pandemic alongside the rise of technology made it necessary to transition to a “Hybrid World”, where structures in human lives are changed from the emergence and accommodation of cyberspace. Challenges of transitioning to a Hybrid World include lack of digital communication equipment for all, limited universal digital literacy skills, and risks of cybersecurity threats. Possible solutions towards this transition may involve sustained funding for research and innovation, more inclusive and collaborative science and technology systems, and maintaining the continuation of healthy societal communication.
