Continuing Strong in the Tide of Change: AUN’s Success Recapped in the 38th AUN-BOT Meeting

The 38th ASEAN University Network Board of Trustees (AUB-BOT) Meeting concluded with an astounding success on 6 July 2023, with gracious hosting from Universiti Malaya. This annual meeting serves as an opportunity for the members of AUN’s Board of Trustees to be updated on the latest activities of AUN, discuss its direction, and set a vision for its future. This year, the members of our Board of Trustees were up for a long list!

In the 14th AUN Rectors’ Meeting held on 5 July 2023, with the gracious hosting of Universiti Malaya, leaders from AUN Universities demonstrated how ASEAN higher education can navigate the changing tide of global higher education. The ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum Made a Grand Return From the Pandemic Hiatus

The wait is finally over! After the COVID Pandemic shook the world, the ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum has been on hiatus for 3 years. But no more, the 18th ASEAN and 8th ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum just recently made a grand return on 14 - 19 May, 2023 in Jakarta, Universitas Indonesia where 132 delegates from 9 ASEAN+3 countries were able to partake in this spectacular cultural event!

The Astounding Success of The First CALOHEA National Meeting at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember

The CALOHEA Project has taken a major leap towards its goal of enhancing mobility and internationalization in Universities in Asia with the first National Meeting on 2 -3 March, 2023, at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Indonesia. This two-day event of knowledge sharing, open discussion, and a workshop is another step towards bringing Higher Education in SEA into a common space and enhancing mobility between SEA countries and even to other regions by implementing the 3 Core Recognition Mechanisms (RM3) into SEA Universities.

13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting and 37th AUN-BOT Meeting successfully held in Vientiane, Lao PDR

The 37th ASEAN University Network Board of Trustees Meeting and the 13th ASEAN University Network Rectors’ Meeting, hosted by the National University of Laos and co-hosted by AUN Secretariat, were held on 27 - 28 September 2022 in Vientiane, Laos PDR. During the 13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting, 11 Presidents, Rectors, Vice Chancellors, and more than 50 representatives from 28 AUN Member Universities across 10 ASEAN Countries participated in the Meeting to discuss and share their good practices, analyses, initiatives, and recommendations on AUN-related projects, programs, and activities.

AUN-QA’s Official Meetings in Viet Nam Series #1: Ministry of Education and Training

On the morning of 20 July 2022, the official meeting was held between the AUN-QA team led by Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, the Executive Director of the AUN, and the guest of honour – Assoc. Prof. Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Training, alongside the representatives from Higher Education Department and Viet Nam Education Management Agency (VQA) under the Ministry.

AUN-QA’s meetings with stakeholders: Exploring current QA prospects in Viet Nam

As the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued the Decision on recognising quality assurance activities of the AUN-QA in Vietnam, the AUN-QA has taken the opportunity to organise official on-site meetings with stakeholder organisations and partnered universities in Vietnam during 17 - 22 July 2022. The objective of this visit was to discuss the prospects of QA direction, share recent updates on QA development in the ASEAN region, and discuss further on possible collaboration in Viet Nam.

The 13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting at Lao PDR

The 13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting was conducted in Vientiane, Lao PDR, hosted by National University of Laos and co-hosted by the AUN Secretariat. In this year’s Meeting, eleven Presidents, Rectors, Vice Chancellors, and more than fifty representatives from twenty-eight AUN Member Universities across ten ASEAN Countries participated in the Meeting, which was held under the encompassing theme “University Excellence and the Next Frontiers of ASEAN Higher Education: How AUN Member Universities Think, Lead, and Manage”.

Delegates from the ASEAN Member States and ROK Gathered at ASEAN-Korea Youth Summit 2022 Closing and Awarding Ceremony

On September 27, this year’s edition of the ASEAN-Korea Youth Summit, with the theme Carbon Neutrality and ASEAN-Korea Youth, officially concluded via the ZEP platform. Participants from ASEAN countries and the Republic of Korea graced the closing ceremony. This year’s summit winning team was from the Philippines, and their project was entitled "The Aftertaste of Food Waste," which focuses on reducing the bitter side effects of inefficient food production and consumption. To end the ceremony, Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, Executive Director of the ASEAN University Network, delivered the congratulatory message to all the winners of the closing activities and to all the participants who successfully finished the whole summit, and Ms. Jessica Lee, MC of the summit, delivered the closing remarks.

AUN-DPPnet Launching TILE Project’s New Guidebook for Fostering Disability-Friendly Learning Environment

On the occasion of the 13th ASEAN University Network Rectors’ Meeting, AUN - Disability and Public Policy Network (AUN-DPPnet) launched “The Policy, Legal and Institutional Framework of Inclusive Higher Education in ASEAN Countries”—a guidebook for fostering a disability-friendly environment. The book is published under TILE Project (Toward Inclusive Learning Environment), a collaboration among five essential universities: University of Malaysia, Mahidol University, Airlangga University, Vietnam Japan University, and Ateneo De Manila University.

The Ethics of Environmental Sustainability in the Era of Climate Crisis

Environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation are crucial for the livelihoods of all citizens of ASEAN countries. Our current and future leaders ought to find the balance between socioeconomic development and the protection of remaining natural resources. The global conversation surrounding our climate laws and regulations now must center on disasters, displacement, and mitigation. The ethics webinar offered a platform for the contemplation of the ethical responsibility of environmental sustainability and a deep reflection on the current systems of production that produces such crises.

Commitment and Passion: The Story Behind the 3rd AYCF Thailand at Burapha University

On 14 - 16 September 2022, Burapha University hosted the 3rd ASEAN University Network-ASEAN Youth Cultural Forum: Thailand Chapter (AUN-AYCF: Thailand Chapter) to promote the ASEAN identity, cultures and showcased the talents of Thai youths, as well as the performance for the upcoming international AYCF in Indonesia. Behind the immense success of this project lies the commitment and passion of students, alumni, and professors to pass on the legacy of Thai culture to the future generation and to share the cultures of ASEAN countries with a wider community of Thailand.
